Thuma’s The Bed Highlights Japanese Joinery + Thoughtful Design

If the space in your home that you enjoy most is the bedroom and minimal design is your preference, Thuma’s The Bed couldn’t be a more perfect fit. The modern design company specializes in creating elevated furniture and home goods for easy, thoughtful living using timeless construction techniques and simple details meant to enhance your lifestyle. The Bed was Thuma’s first release, and arguably still its most popular, with headboard options and additional furniture pieces having been added as offerings since.

Japanese joinery, a technique used for assembling furniture and other wooden items without nails, is the design’s hallmark. The four sideboards slip into place tool-free with minimal effort and are just as easy to disassemble – a blessing if you relocate frequently.

Thuma mindfully manufactures The Bed using environmentally friendly 100% upcycled rubberwood from trees that would have otherwise been burned. The materials are sourced from plantations located near the brand’s manufacturing partner, further reducing the carbon footprint of the furniture. Each frame is inherently unique as a result, celebrating natural imperfections, distinct wood grains and knots, and subtle variations in color. The generous 9-inches of underbed space leaves room for smart storage and easy decluttering or take advantage of the optional Underbed Storage Drawers for maximum space.

The Bed’s double-strength slats ensure minimal noise while providing optimal support and breathability. Lined with durable eco-fi felt made from recycled plastics, the slats lock into place and help prevent your mattress from slipping around on the frame. The bottom of each leg is capped with a pre-applied, cork-padded bottom to protect your floors and provide extra cushion to the already solid setup. This foundation has been rigorously tested, proving to withstand all bedtime activities.

If you’d like to personalize your frame, Thuma does offer a few options. First up is The Headboard, an understated, solid wood upgrade made from the same 100% upcycled rubberwood as The Bed.

Next is The Pillowboard, a pillow-headboard hybrid made of premium, tapered, CertiPUR-US®-certified foam that doesn’t attach to The Bed. Instead, it sits perched on the back of the frame between the mattress and the wall. Designed for comfort and function, it’s a great choice for those of us who love to wind down by reading, with a supportive foam backing that creates the ideal environment for squeezing in just one more chapter before turning off the light. The Pillowboard also features a washable, interchangeable cover in 100% polyester pebbled linen-weave, boucle, or corduroy, so you can keep things fresh or make an update every season.

A third hybrid option allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds – The Headboard Cushion. An upholstered addition to The Headboard, it’s constructed using a higher-density CertiPUR-US®-certified foam than The Pillowboard for firmer support. Powder-coated aluminum plates seamlessly attach to The Headboard for stability and safety.

The Bed is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and Cali King in Walnut, Natural, Grey, or Espresso stains. It’s GREENGUARD Gold certified, and you can enjoy a 100-day trial on your first Thuma purchase.

Thuma’s values and passion for craftsmanship shine all the brighter when combined with their environment-first thinking, deliberate design, and mindfulness. Learn more about The Bed and the rest of Thuma’s collection at thuma.co.
