The throwback-sounding duet, released in August 2024, became an instant hit out of the gate. Months later, the track is not only still performing well — it’s leading the charge on several Billboard charts. The song still stands out as the biggest in the world, and as it holds on once more, it comes within striking distance of an all-time record.
“Die With a Smile” Leads the Billboard Global 200
The Gaga/Mars collaboration has now dominated Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed songs throughout the world for 18 nonconsecutive weeks. That feat makes it the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Global 200, and the cut may soon break the previously-set record.
If “Die With a Smile” can hold on for just one more frame, it will match “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey for the most weeks spent at No. 1. That holiday smash has racked up a total of 19 stays at the summit, with those stints spread out across more than half a decade. The tune returns to the peak position at the end of each year and continues adding to its growing total.
The fact that Gaga and Mars have been able to stitch together their 18 weeks at No. 1 in one promotional run — if not in a single streak — speaks to the track’s incredible global popularity.
Lady Gaga Dominates Both Global Lists
“Die With a Smile” is also in charge of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., though it still has a way to go before matching the all-time record on that ranking. With 15 frames spent atop the tally, it passes the 14 that “All I Want for Christmas Is You” managed. However, that tune didn’t hold the top showing.
That honor belongs to “Apt.,” a collaboration between Blackpink singer Rosé and, once again, Mars. The track led the list — which excludes sales and streaming data from America and reflects what the rest of the world is consuming — for 19 frames.
The two tracks came out around the same time and, for a while, traded the No. 1 spot. If “Die With a Smile” can remain at the top for another month, it could match “Apt.” That’s a tall order for a tune that has already been out for so many months and has now ruled for 15 weeks, but certainly not impossible.
