Winvic lands huge industrial scheme in East Midlands

Northampton-based Winvic Construction is to design and build an industrial facility at the mammoth Segro Logistics Park in the East Midlands town.

The contractor was named to deliver the 111,000 square metre project for global supply chain giant Yusen Logistics.

As well as a ground-floor warehouse, the facility will include a mezzanine level, a three-storey office space with roof terrace, and a separate single-level workspace.

The huge distribution centre will feature 85 HGV docks and 10 lorry-access doors as well as parking for 163 HGVs, 924 cars, 1,230 cycles and 34 motorbikes.

It will have its own security gatehouse, fuel island and lorry wash, a pallet storage area and waste and recycling space, and sit immediately adjacent to a 14 hectare Strategic Rail Freight Terminal also built by Winvic.

The contractor, along with developer Segro and end user Yusen Logistics, celebrated the start of the latest project with a Japanese kagami biraki ceremony to bestow wishes for success and prosperity upon the new development.

Winvic head of industrial, distribution and logistics Danny Nelson said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Segro to construct the first industrial facility at Segro Logistics Park Northampton.

“When it’s completed, we’ll have worked on the site for a total of four years, so I’d like to thank the Segro team for continuing to put their trust in us.

“Winvic previously constructed a facility in nearby Wellingborough for Yusen Logistics as the tenant, so we’re looking forward to working with them again and to illustrating our high standards.”

Segro Logistics Park Northampton is located next to Junction 15 of the M1 and will offer almost 500,000 square metres of supply chain space.

Amazon recently revealed plans to build a £500m fulfilment centre at the Segro Logistics Park.
