Renew subsidiary scoops £150m Scottish rail framework

Network Rail has appointed Renew subsidiary Amalgamated Construction (AmcoGiffen) to deliver a framework for reactive and minor civils works across Scotland.

The framework, announced today (17 April), is expected to run for four years with an option for a one-year extension at Network Rail’s discretion.

Leeds-based AmcoGiffen will be the sole contractor on the framework, delivering a broad range of small-scale civil engineering projects for assets managed by Network Rail Infrastructure.

Services to be provided by the construction engineering firm include emergency repairs, cyclical maintenance, and minor improvements to bridges, tunnels, and drainage assets across the Scottish rail network.

Work will be carried out under tight response times, including two-hour attendance for emergencies and 24-hour response for urgent incidents, Network Rail said in a contract notice.

It estimates that around £150m worth of work could be awarded through the framework over its lifetime.

Procurement was based on a mix of quality and cost, with pricing weighted at 60 per cent and qualitative measures accounting for the remaining 40 per cent.
