Permasteelisa wins facade package for 50 Fenchurch Street tower

Permasteelisa Group has been appointed to deliver the facade package for Multiplex’s 50 Fenchurch Street job in the City of London.

The international contractor will engineer, supply and install the building envelope through its Gartner brand, working alongside Permasteelisa UK.

The 36-storey scheme, designed by Eric Parry Architects, is being delivered by AXA IM Alts, with YardNine acting as development delivery partner.

Multiplex is the main contractor.

The tower will provide 62,000 square metres of flexible office space and a further 1,500 square metres of public realm at ground level.

The scheme also incorporates new premises for the Clothworkers’ Company, which has owned the site for almost 500 years.

Two heritage assets – the All Hallows Staining church tower and Lambe’s Chapel Crypt – will be made publicly accessible.

The building has been designed to operate at net aero and will be one of the first fully electric towers in London.

Permasteelisa will install its Closed Cavity Facade system on the main tower. This incorporates automated blinds to increase daylight penetration while limiting solar gain.

A double-height stick system will be installed on the lower floors, including hand-set stonework and terracotta-clad columns.

The scheme will include extensive vertical landscaping, with over 70 plant species incorporated through more than 40 balconies and terraces, as well as gardens designed by DSDHA on the 10th floor and a public rooftop garden.

Permasteelisa chief executive Liam Cummins said the firm would collaborate with Multiplex to meet design and sustainability targets.
