The New England Patriots met with Texas edge defender Barryn Sorrell, per The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler.
It makes sense considering edge rusher is a clear need for a Patriots team that has worked hard to beef up the defense in the offseason. However, they could still use a reliable pass rusher to put some heat on opposing quarterbacks, which is something they struggled to do consistently last season.
Sorrell recorded 44 tackles, six sacks and 11 tackles for a loss with the Longhorns in 2024. In his Texas career, he has recorded 132 combined tackles, 15.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The six sacks this season were a career-high for him.
The Patriots have met with multiple defensive players throughout the pre-draft process. Their primary target on the edge is believed to be Penn State’s Abdul Carter, assuming he falls to them at No. 4 in the first round.
If not, they could be forced to pivot, which might lead them to take a player like Sorrell later in the draft. The former Texas standout has been projected as a Day 3 pick.
