Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison, some 20 miles west of Philadelphia, on August 31. A video released after the escape showed him crab-walking up a wall and scaling a fence in order to break out. Calvalcante—who was sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his then-girlfriend—led police on a massive manhunt for 14 days. Cavalcante was seen several times in surveillance images, was spotted in a nearby botanical garden and was seen by residents in Chester County, police said. Over the weekend, police said he stole a vehicle from a dairy farm nearly 25 miles north of the prison he escaped from, after he attempted to make contact with two former acquaintances.
