Empress Botanical Garden in Pune, India

Pune has a number of green spaces in the form of gardens, parks, and hills. People of all ages visit these places for exercise, meditation, reading, nature walks, rejuvenation, and other recreational activities.

Empress Botanical Garden, located near Pune Race Course, is one such spot. It has over a hundred difference species of plants. There are flowers of every color blossoming around. Squirrels run around on the green lawns as people sit on artistic benches and relax and enjoy the serenity and peace.

In the 19th century, the garden was known as the Soldiers’ Garden and was used as a recreational spot by the British troops posted in Pune. Eventually, it was handed over to the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India. It was also once known as the Garden of Dr. Don, and eventually, it was renamed Empress Botanical Garden after Queen Victoria.

Today, the garden is a great place for nature enthusiasts and those seeking to relax in the midst of beautiful plants and trees. The garden authorities organize a number of interesting events such as flower shows, nature walks, yoga sessions, photography workshops, and more. It is wonderful to see natural habitats and biodiversity parks thrive in urban landscapes.
