Firms are being alerted to a £100m framework to repair and upgrade a raft of public buildings across Edinburgh.
The city council is expected to invite bids early next year for a major programme of improvement works to schools, libraries, social work offices and other commercial premises.
The four-year agreement will be tendered by the authority’s strategic asset management department to help deliver Edinburgh’s capital investment programme.
The framework is expected to be divided into five lots, with the first relating to mechanical, electrical and public health installation works.
A second lot will bring together traditional trades such as roofing, stonework and masonry, while a third is to cover windows, doors and screens.
Groundwork, civil work and concrete repairs will come under the fourth lot.
The final lot, encompassing multi-trade works such as joinery, wiring and plastering, will be divided into four categories by value – jobs worth up to £1m, from £1m to £3m, from £3m to £7m, and from £7m to £15m.
The contract notice is expected to be published in February.
For now, firms are being invited to express their interest and complete a market engagement questionnaire.
City of Edinburgh Council said the market consultation exercise was intended to allow potential bidders to help shape the council’s strategy for the procurement.
“Despite funding challenges, the council has a substantial budget to deliver works over the next four years,” it said.
“This framework presents an opportunity to work with the council to create a sustainable future for Edinburgh’s commercial properties.”
The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce last month called for investment in the city so economic growth could tackle social issues including poverty.
Its chief executive Liz McAreavey said it was vital to “create the kind of city we aspire to be”.
