Team Canada fell to Team USA by a 3-1 final score on Feb. 15. It was an incredibly close contest between the two stacked squads, but Team USA picked up the massive win and will be in the final on Feb. 20 because of it.
St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington stopped 20 out of 22 shots from Team USA in Team Canada’s loss. He also accomplished a very rare stat during this start.

Binnington recorded an assist on Connor McDavid’s first-period goal. With this, Binnington became just the sixth goalie in history to record an assist during an NHL international tournament game. According to NHL Public Relations, the only other goalies to achieve this are Jaroslav Halak, Andrei Trefilov, Pete Peeters, Dominik Hasek, and Mike Liut.
This is a cool stat, but unfortunately for Binnington and Team Canada, his assist wasn’t enough for them to secure a win. They will now look to bounce back and pick up a much-needed win against Team Sweden on Feb. 17.
