Astell&Kern’s New Player Gives the SP3000M a Luxury Upgrade

Portable music players have come a long way, offering ultra-high-quality audio – especially when paired with a solid set of headphones. But what if cutting-edge technology alone isn’t quite enough? If you’re seeking the pinnacle of portable audio and craftsmanship, Astell&Kern’s new A&ultima SP3000M Copper Nickel Limited Edition Player may be the answer.

A sleek audio device, SP3000M, labeled "A&ultima" rests elegantly on a shelf beside books and a pair of stylish earphones.

This version of the SP3000M is a luxurious reimagining of the standard model, replacing the aluminum body with a copper-nickel alloy that gives it a strikingly premium aesthetic. This alloy not only enhances visual appeal, but also brings practical advantages. The copper-nickel material offers antibacterial properties and superior resistance to corrosion. It also lends the player a luminous finish and a high-end tactile feel – without increasing its overall weight.

Internally, the player maintains the same hardware as the standard SP3000M. However, Astell&Kern notes that previous copper-based models have earned praise from audiophiles for producing more natural tones – though whether that difference is perceptible will depend on the listener.

Fortunately, the internal specs are impressive regardless. The device features a Snapdragon 6125 octa-core processor and 8GB of DDR4 memory. Unlike many other audio players, the SP3000M uses Astell & Kern’s Hexa audio circuit design, which separates digital and analog signals for improved fidelity. It includes four AKM AK4499EX DACs and two AK4191EQ chips, enabling a signal-to-noise ratio of 130 decibels. Simply put, if you’re chasing pristine audio quality, the SP3000M delivers – whether you opt for the standard model or the new Copper Nickel Limited Edition.

In terms of storage, the player comes with 256GB of internal capacity and supports microSD cards up to 1.5TB. It also features a USB-C port, allowing it to function as a USB DAC with both Mac and Windows computers – making it a versatile option for audiophiles on the move. Additionally, it includes the same VU Meter software introduced with the SP3000T, which has been well-received for creating a more immersive listening experience.

The Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000M Copper Nickel Limited Edition Player is retailing at $2,699 – roughly $400 more than the standard version. While that’s a steep price, it reflects the model’s blend of acoustic excellence and luxury craftsmanship.
