Ransom Canyon
Well, first it lost out to WWE Monday Night RAW, but now Ransom Canyon has been unseated in Netflix’s Top 10 list by an actual scripted show, the return of a rather popular Netflix series on its last season.
That would be You season 5, the serial killer drama starring Penn Badgley as a killer constantly stalking and murdering women, and if the situation calls for it, men. Season 5 will be the last in the series as it draws to an end, a rare situation where Netflix sees a series fully to its conclusion.
Unlike season 4 of You, Netflix has not split up season 5 of You into two parts, with all ten episodes live now for binge viewing. Netflix has been going back and forth and everywhere with this split-up season idea, and just when you think they might no longer be doing it, they announced that Wednesday season 2 will air in two parts a month apart from each other, so who really knows at this point.
Top 10
You season 5 is not reviewing as well as other seasons, where those range from 89% to 94% scores, and this season is a 77% with a 66% audience score so far, indicating something of a quality drop for whatever its finale ends up being. But so far, viewership is good.
Ransom Canyon is down to #2 but it has had a stellar run for its debut season, and while nothing has been announced yet, it’s pretty much guaranteed that it will see a season 2, even with middling reviews. All Netflix really cares about is viewership and cost, and it has both of those. A low cost, rather. I would expect to see an announcement about Ransom Canyon season 2 shortly.
The rest of the list has Black Mirror’s latest season, a good one, at #3 and mostly reality series past that with Love on the Spectrum and a live iteration of Pop the Balloon, a rare live dating series that Netflix appears to be trying out in a more traditional television concept.
Again, I remain impressed by The Residence, which was said to be on the bubble of cancellation, but it has remained inside the Top 10 list for an insanely long time, which I would say has significantly boosted its prospects, but no news on that yet. But it’s about time we hear something.
